Tech Policy Roundup – March 2024

This year, Congress has held several hearings about AI, though no AI legislation has been enacted. There are several areas where new laws focused on AI could help protect consumers, build trust in this emerging technology, and drive innovation. AI Tech Accord Focuses on Election Integrity

Twenty leading AI and platform companies recently committed to help protect elections globally by joining the Tech Accord to Combat Deceptive Use of AI in 2024 Elections. “As society embraces the benefits of AI, we have a responsibility to help ensure these tools don’t become weaponized in elections,” said Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft. Tech Industry and Government Collaborate on NAIRR

In January, the National Science Foundation (NSF) launched a pilot version of the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR), which will provide researchers and academics with access to a range of AI technology. The pilot includes the participation of 11 federal agencies and 25 private-sector partners, including Microsoft, OpenAI, NVIDIA, AWS, and many others.
