Wardrobe Guidance
Below are some suggested guidelines for wardrobe selection.
- Stick to solids. Big patterns are too distracting on video. Remember, the focus should be on you, not your outfit.
- Avoid small, tight patterns (including subtle plaid patterns) as these may “buzz” on camera.
- Avoid white, bright red, and all-black outfits. All three of these colors pose technical problems. A small amount of white is okay peeking out from under a jacket, but your best bet is to opt for a light blue.
- Keep jewelry simple. Dangly jewelry isn’t just visually distracting; it’s loud. Microphones will pick up your bangle bracelets or jangly earrings.
- Do not wear clothing that has large branding or logos on it.
Some Reminders
Please keep the following in mind when you are prepping for filming.
- Be yourself and have fun! We’re looking to capture your authentic responses and experiences.
- Get a good night’s sleep! It’s best to go into the interview feeling as calm as possible.
- Keep body language in mind. Distracted movements like fidgeting, twirling your thumbs, or adjusting your hair or clothing may appear distracting on video.
- Plan to talk more slowly than you normally would. It can be difficult to understand fast talking on video.
- Relax! We’ll work with you to make sure the recording process is comfortable, even if this is your first time being interviewed on camera.
