This Week in Washington
- Nextgov: The U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a detailed Artificial Intelligence Strategy aimed at helping to speed the use of AI in healthcare and improving the agency’s operations. The plan includes pillars for managing risk and building trust, providing AI training and tools to the HHS workforce, and accelerating research with AI.
- The Hill: The House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and it is expected to pass the Senate soon. Among other provisions, the legislation includes restrictions on American investment in Chinese advanced chip and biotech companies.
- Financial Times: President Trump announced that he would not block sales of Nvidia’s advanced semiconductor chips to China. However, both Washington and Beijing plan to implement approval processes to control chip sales and protect national security.
- The Record: The Treasury Department released a report showing cybercrime gangs made off with more than $2 billion in ransomware payments over a three-year span from 2022-2024. Payments peaked at over $1 billion in 2023 and have fallen every year since.
