- ExecutiveGov: The National Science Foundation (NSF) launched Project Triad, a three-pronged initiative focused on developing real-world applications for quantum technology. The project will include internal projects, independent teams of researchers, and industry partnerships.
- Nextgov: The House Homeland Security Committee requested a briefing from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after reports emerged of a hack of the DHS’s Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN). It is not yet clear who was responsible for the hack and what was compromised.
- Federal News Network: The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has set a September goal to finalize two major regulatory rules surrounding cyber reporting and federal contracting rules for unclassified IT systems, according to the plan released last week.
- StateScoop: Chief Information Officer Greg Barbaccia, the senior federal IT official in the Trump administration since January 2025, is leaving the administration at the end of August. Deputy CIO Thomas Flagg will be the default acting CIO upon Barbaccia’s departure, a position that also includes the role of federal chief AI officer.

- Windows Blog: Microsoft is turning cybersecurity-focused AI on itself, according to Pavan Davulure, Windows Executive Vice President. The company is scanning its Windows operating system with high-powered AI models to identify and patch vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.
