Microsoft Launches Community-First AI Infrastructure Initiative
On January 13, Microsoft announced the company’s Community-First AI Infrastructure initiative, anchored by the following five key commitments to communities where Microsoft builds, owns, and operates datacenters.

Key Quantum Legislation Introduced in Senate
Last month, a bipartisan group of ten senators led by U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Todd Young (R-IN) reintroduced the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act. If enacted, the bill would extend the National Quantum Initiative through 2034. Key provisions include standing up new quantum research centers and creating prize challenges for quantum development.
Congress Passes the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with AI Provisions
At the end of last year, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which President Trump signed into law. The bill includes several AI, cybersecurity, and other technology provisions. Notably, the bill includes support for the National Security and Defense AI Institute, which will help advance defense innovation, AI workforce skilling, and AI readiness. The bill also updates procurement rules to leverage technology to drive better outcomes.
