AI on the Agenda at the U.S-China Summit

President Trump and a large delegation of U.S. government and business leaders traveled to China this week for a summit focused on a number of geopolitical issues. According to reports, AI was on the summit’s agenda. In addition to shaping AI competition, development, and supply chains, the summit could lead to a framework for the two nations to work together on developing AI guardrails and preventing the use of AI for cybercrime.

This Week in Washington

  • CyberScoop: The House Homeland Security Committee held a closed briefing in which lawmakers received a live demonstration of Anthropic’s Claude Mythos model. The briefing was the first in a series of planned sessions to explore how to advance American leadership in AI without sacrificing cybersecurity.
     
  • The Hill: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) raising concerns about the country’s cybersecurity preparations. He specifically focused on the need for leadership at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the suspension of funding to the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center last year.
     
  • Nextgov: The House is advancing the first 2027 appropriations bill of the year, funding the Department of Veterans Affairs. Amendments to the legislation include proposals to track the use of certain AI tools and put guardrails around the use of AI for claims approvals and denials.
