The 2016 elections are in the record book. Dramatic changes in Washington will likely impact the U.S. and global tech sectors, as well as businesses of all sizes.

In the coming weeks and months, a clearer picture of the policy agendas of the Trump Administration and the new Congress will emerge.

For the Microsoft ecosystem, including partners and customers, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and President and Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith looked forward optimistically, each congratulating the President-elect and expressing hope for progress on key issues impacting technology, our nation, and the world.

Writing on LinkedIn, Satya Nadella introduced Brad Smith’s reflections on the election, “We congratulate the President-elect, and look forward to working with all those elected yesterday. Our commitment to our mission and values are steadfast, and in particular fostering a diverse and inclusive culture. With that in mind and looking to the future, Brad Smith today outlined in a blog Microsoft’s thoughts and recommendations for the new Administration and Congress.”

In his blog, “Moving Forward Together: Our Thoughts on the US Election,” Brad Smith discusses how the election shows the concerns of Americans “who feel left out and left behind.” He discusses the role that technology can play in addressing this issue. He also touches on progress that can be made to expand US infrastructure, including broadband, as well as the need for policies that “strike a balance that protects privacy and public safety in what remains a dangerous time.”

Voices for Innovation looks forward to continuing to educate our members, the tech sector, and the broader public about tech policy debates in Washington and state capitals. We are certain that several key tech policy issues will receive close attention from elected officials in 2017.
